Well it's been a rather interesting 2008 for me, got married and all.....

And now in 2009, lots of changes and I have lots to post....

Apologies to all my fans, friends and clients....

I will definately be updating more regularly now and participating in a lot of online web shops and even some weekend bazaars here and there.

Well it's been a very busy year for me... can't believe it's almost coming to an end.. updates will be done soon :)

But in the meantime, it is the season for gift giving... and I have some new designs which I need to post here.... for all to see.... and even in this economic crunch... gifts still need to be bought... and I've restructured my pricing as well... gotta go with the times....

Thanks to everybody for being so patient.... I've been busy at work.. Yes! I work full-time now... but I still spend time making new stuff....

Just FYI... my stuff can be seen on MTV... being modelled by Denise Keller... yups! :) She's been a great support and I'm ever grateful to her....

Will try to post up some pics & a webby vidz of the shows....

Anyways....I kinda missed out on designs for Christmas and CNY but fret now... Easter designs are a-coming... but then again.. I have been planning to do more seasonal stuff...

Inspirations and ideas are coming left,right & centre.. so I ask all to bear a little more with me as I upgrade this website...

On the personal front.... I'm in love... and ever so lucky.. coz this man is some-how just as crazy in love with me.. that he got down on bended knee on 29 February and asked me to take a LEAP OF FAITH and marry him... so I said... YES!

Ok... that's the news for now.... and I promise the new designs will be posted very soon....

I Love Lariats

I love Lariats.. they are so versatile and unique.... these two are my favorites.. to date I think I've made about 5 lariats for myself... mum has maybe 3 or 4... I've made dozens to sell and I still wanna make more..... hmmmm... inspiration time!

Hawt Rawks! I used silver chain with these lovely nuggets... each a different Semi-precious stone... I've got Citrine, Carnelian, Jasper, Smoky Quartz, Amethyst, Labradorite, Amazonite, Chalcedony, Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz. It's definately a conversation starter for me :)

For this lariat, I used a gold-filled chain and just Amazonite beads. I had leftover Amazonite teardrop shaped beads which made great dangly bits... This one I use for more evening affairs...

August Stone :: Peridot

Although some of you may know it as the August birthstone, Peridot seems to be one of the lesser-known gemstones. So, let’s take a deeper look at Peridot this week and learn more about this beautiful light green gemstone.

Specifically, Peridot is the gemmy-quality variety of a mineral called Olivine, but some may also call them Chrysolite or simply Olivine as well. Small gem-quality Peridot crystals are rather common, but larger ones over 5 carats are quite rare. That is why most of the Peridot beads available in the industry are petite. Peridot beads are also often heavily included, especially if they are large.

To create Peridot jewelry perfect for spring, try mixing them with pastel colors. Mother nature uses green to enhance most flowers she has created, so don’t be afraid to experiment with different colors! Chances are, Peridot will compliment many pastel-toned beads, such as Rose Quartz, Lilac Amethyst, and Aquamarine. If you want to play up the floral theme in your design, mixing carved flower beads with Peridot accents will definitely evoke the image of spring!

The gemstone Chrysocolla is often confused with turquoise. It is a copper bearing mineral found wherever copper deposits occur especially in areas of the southwestern USA, Chili, Zaire, Australia, France and England and Peru. Chrysocolla is frequently found in the southwest United States, especially Arizona, and it is often a clue to ore prospectors that copper deposits may be nearby.

Named from the Greek chrysos - "gold" and kolla - "glue" in allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold. Colors in Chrysocolla range from blue to green to blue-green, with sometimes black or brown. Like Azurite, Chrysocolla often occurs mixed with Malachite, Turquoise and Azurite, resulting in unusually beautiful gemstones.

Pure chrysocolla is too soft for jewelry purposes but it is often found in quartz deposits which makes it hard enough to polish for beads. Chrysocolla is also often "agatized" in chalcedony quartz. The quartz provides the stone with its polish and durability. A famous form of this came from Mexico many years ago. It was called Parrot Wing. Another form known as Drusy Chrysocolla is often found with sparkling little crystals of white quartz on one or more faces. This impregnation of quartz adds a hardness and stability to this soft mineral. Polished specimens that show the vivid blue-green of chrysocolla and sparkling drusy quartz on top, can be quite pretty.

Chrysocolla is another one of Copper's crystal offspring. This hydrated Copper crystal has two distinct personalities. The highest quality of Chrysocolla is known as Gem Silica. In its purest form, Chrysocolla is brittle, soft and unsuitable for jewelry and such, without undergoing enhancements. However, if silica is available to "agatize" a Chrysocolla specimen, the resulting crystal is an enchanting stone, hard enough to cut into jewelry, spheres and unique carvings.

Chrysocolla is associated with tranquility and peace, intuition, patience, and unconditional love. It is thought to offer gentle and soothing qualities.

Lovely agate chunky pieces that I couldn't resist turning into rings.. yup... nicely done with silver-filled wire. Fun Wire Rings!! As we call them.... Now my camera's acting up so the picture's not that great... but I couldn't resist doing an 'artist' sketch (red background) and well.. the colours are best brought out in the artist sketch then in the other...but you get the picture... I think each time I make a rosary for a friend or loved one... I get more blessings :) heeee..... see unless you ask me to make a rosary from scratch i.e. i choose the beads, i do the work etc... I only charge $35 per rosary... which actually... frankly.. is too darn cheap.. but I see it as more of attaining a step closer to the Big G....:D

But in this case... this pretty rosary... was selected by LadyGlam herself... she chose the hearts, and the in-between beads... all I did was put it together and provide her the centrepiece & cross... et voila! It is so pretty and rustic at the same time.... now... for this... she's buying me lunch next time we meet... :)

Well I was quite creatively deprived due to being overly stressed at work.. so now that things are much better :D I got creative a few days ago.. and made 2 new things for myself...

This I call My Purple Rose - made with beautiful Amethyst 'teeth-like' droplets and Rose Quartz cubes & nuggets. It's sweet because of the pink, yet daring because of the Amethyst. A little like me, your 'Girl-Next-Door' meets 'Sex & The City'! What a combination!!!!

This is for Joyce.. a new friend I recently made and with whom I have an interesting bond with. Somewhat girly, somewhat womanly... she's been a great listening ear and has offered me good advice. And for that.. I was inspired by her spirit and determination to design this for her.

I call it Pearl Glam.. coz that's what she is.. like a Pearl, cultured, beautiful, unique, classic and the touch of gold adds the Glam effect which afterall is what all women posses.. the Glam factor, in their own way.

I used lovely button like fresh water pearls of off white, peach, pink colors and a gold-filled chain. Use as a lariat or even as a belt.

Lariat with a twist.. as most my lariats are slightly longer and more chainwork. This time, for her I used more quartz chips of Yellow Jade, Amazonite & Yellow Quartz with some Mother of Pearl beads. (Jade is Flora's own)

Not to draw the attention away from the carvings on the jade, I chose Rutilated Quartz chips which had a hint of the brown/gold to go with the jade piece. (Jade is Flora's own)

Yes.. i promised new designs.. but i've been so bogged down by work lately.. got a number of big events coming up and many promotions to run... i'm pooped out!

But anyways.. a good friend had a special order for me... 3 jade pieces and well.. this is work in progress.. but i'm gonna do this for her.. tired as I am :)

Well... the pendant is definately a Mother of Pearl which was painted over, kinda retro looking and I just saw this black resin shell beads which fit ever so perfectly in this combination... It's a statement of sorts... for me at least.. after I made it I didn't really want to include it in the collection but hey.. I can't keep every piece I make... I'll run out of shelf space!!! But in any case.. they don't make the pendants like that anymore.. or at least I can't find anything like it now... so grab it before it's too late!

I remember when I saw the black wooden beads at one of my suppliers place.. i was like.. wow.. cool... what could i possibly do with them... so i bought it anyways.. and when i got back.. played around with it.. and voila! Witchdoctor was born... i think it's pretty funky and definately a conversation starter... i paired it with golden brown fresh water pearls and brass chunky-ish chain.. ooga-chaga ooga-chaga...

Don't you just love Shah Rukh Khan? I'm a fan of bollywood movies, just can't get enough of the mama drama, the laughs, the tears, the whole romantic melodrama, Hero lai-lo (here comes the hero) and the running around the mountains and fight scenes in the rain etc etc...

So, naturally when I saw these beautiful Sodalite faceted teardrops.. I just had to get it... and when paired with the chili red acrylic bead and the silver components, just looked like a piece Aishwarya Rai would wear to one of her movie launches..

Maybe after I catch the latest Shah Rukh Khan movie.. KANK, I'll get more inspiration.. like a Passage to India of sorts..

I call this my Amazon Woman, mainly because the whole necklace is Amazonite. A beautiful turquoisy-blue stone. Amazing healing powers and just Amazing. It is one of my favorite stones and this is one of my favorite designs. Simple yet very outstanding..

Yes.. my adventure with Jade.. actually these are designs that I've done quite some time back but every time I look at them, I can't believe how beautiful Jade can be in so many colours... yes Jade, does not come only in Green but in shades of Yellow, White, Black, Red, Pink and Purple or Lilac Jade.

Burmese Jade is still considered the best and most expensive and Jade has had it's shares of bad press with colours being injected to make the colour more distinctive.

But even with all that, I think it's always nice to have at least 1 Jade piece in your jewellery collection.

Birth of A Semi Precious LIfe

Welcome to the birth of A Semi Precious Life. Having been an avid blogger, i've decided to put this blog to good use for all my creations and designs. It's been hard to keep a proper website going and somehow with this blog, i will be able to show my creations and explain why and how i came up with it... where did i pluck my inspiration from?

Well, i gather inspiration from everything around me... and I have a bad habit of not being able to stop buying my beads.. semi-precious, minerals, you name it.... i just keep on buying... but luckily, i've had a few sales here and there.. but what i'm gonna showcase here... well.. i'm calling it the webby collection... yup i have a few collections... details to come :)

So in the meantime, I hope to gain a few friends in the process of getting A Semi Precious Life up and running with new stuff each week.. bear with me.. creativity can't be forced and needs to form naturally...
